"cool game but the skin is irritating" - 23 October 2007
a really good upgrade to 07 but the new skin is so ugly and sometimes confusing
although everything else makes up for it... the new international section is really good and you can visit some of the weekly games to view your players for call ups
everything from loading to saving is 3 times faster aswell

"There's something that's irritating me. " - 24 October 2007
And that's the Match Play. It's becoming quite annoying how you can be winning 3-0 with ten minutes left, then lose 4-3 because the player who was currently on a "5" has suddenly had his Lucozade and has now progressed to a ten! It's impossible! It's also very frustrating watching the game. Your players refuse to close the oposition down, regardless of how many times you tell them to (team and individual instructions) I've found no other problem with the game bar this, but i've given up a very good season as Derby on Fm07 to play this game, and i'm starting to think that maybe a few patches won't go amiss. Still a quality game, but they need to imrove the gameplay on match days to be more realistic.

"1 small thing" - 29 October 2007
This game is fantastic, a really good update to the 2007 version, however there is one small thing that is really starting to bug me and that is: the amount of times a player scores and then it is disallowed it happens almost everygame this is very unrealistic, a small bug in what is otherwise a fantastic game

"Brilliant game, but needs patching" - 7 November 2007
Theres not a lot of point in me praising this game, as i think all the 5 star reviews below mine have done a good, and perfectly accurate job of it. Forgetting what im about to say, this is still a brilliant game and i would recommend it to anyone. However i would recommend with a warning; as soon as you've installed this game, get on the SI website and get the patch. Without it the matchday engine is absolutely ridiculous. Your players will part like the red sea everytime an opposition player gets the ball and no amount of tactics will get them to actually try and make a tackle. This makes the game unbelivably frustrating to play. There are some other small bugs but this is the only game-breaking one in my opinion.
So, buy it, but patch it!

"Awesome game but is it different enough ?" - 16 December 2007
If you are new to the series prepare to lose your social life ! if you are a regular to the FM dynasty you'll be wondering how much value for money FM2008 is over 2007, ok there are some nice features but other than those minor improvements, is it anything more than a re-skinned 2007 with a newer player database ??
It is a steady improvement in the evolution of the series and I do recommend it but is it honestly different enough from its previous incarnations ??

"Disappointing" - 9 February 2008
I have enjoyed the previous versions of this game, but, I must say that this is the most frustrating to play. No matter how good a team you assemble you cannnot guarantee to beat even the easiest of teams. As manager of Arsenal I was averaging one disallowed goal per game, this is totally ludicrous.
If this is the new standard, I won't be buying any further versions.

"Not bad but could be better" - 11 April 2008
I purchased this game in the Christmas period, at about £20. Ok, I was really looking forward to getting into this game but after a while (a few seasons in fact) I just got a tad bit fed up as I kept switching teams every second. As I am someone who enjoys a challenge, I have occasional fun escaping the bottom four. Sometimes this is not the case. Sometimes I get so angry I nearly come to the stage in snapping the game in half.
So if I were you I wouldn't buy this game. Stick with the other FM games, especially 2005...amazing game!

"Still playing the game 6 months on!" - 23 May 2008
Interesting to see the wide range of views on this game. Correct it is VERY difficult and extremely challenging. I have taken Exeter City from the Conference into League 2 (well done City for doing it in practice!). However can I get them any further!!
If you drop onto the plethora of websites that help, such as footballmanagerportal.co.uk, you will soon establish this is a sophisticated and complex game, due to the extensive advice available - hence why so many of us saddo budding managers are continuing to struggle!
However, the fact I keep coming back for more, even though I find that one defeat leads to a near season run of disasterous results, I feel there must be a way of beating the game. I am getting there, but its hard work and a lot of lost time (and sleep).
Overall a superb piece of work; if there was scope for introducing an "easy", "normal" or "hard" option, for those who want a simple life, that may well assist. Its not the right answer as learning and persistence is the key to this game, but may assist those who cannot cope without an instant return! In the meantime, I will continue to try and get Exeter out of League 2 - to League 1 rather than back to the Conference, I hope!!
Highly recommended, if you like Chess and other strategy games that do not provide instant results!!

"At last it's hard!" - 1 June 2008
I was starting to get bored of picking my favourite team (West Brom) every season and within a few years win the Champs League, this version is a LOT more realistic and a lot harder.
As long as you keep the engine up to date (You can get patches for that) it is extremely realistic, some games just don't go your way no matter what you do, it's frustrating but it happpens in real life, in the old games if you got tactics and players right you always won.
It is hard to buy World Class stars, but only VERY poor players need to do that, the challenge is over a longer term, developing younger players while mantaining success in the short term.
Overall had it from day one and stil laddicted, playeed as so many clubs and in so many different ways and always challenging.

"As good as ever" - 25 July 2008
the people who seem to have problems with this game tend to be starting out with the big teams and complaining because they're not winning everything. i always thought the point of the (original) championship manager/football manager series was that you start somewhere near the bottom and work your way up, in theory gaining respect from fans and players as you progress, enabling your decisions to have more of an impact and buying yourself more time when things aren't going to plan.
i think this is the way to get the most out of the game rather than treating it as a quick 1 season, winning everything there is to win, and i have always believed the game is created with this in mind, weighted in favour of those who begin small and work their way up, which might be why some people are finding it frustrating.
I think the improvements that have been made work well, and the game has become more realistic and more addictive as a result.
