5 out of 5  "Best online game I've tried so far" - 12 February 2005
Truthfully, I haven't tried many online games BUT this game is SOOO much more playable than anything else I've seen... I just have to reccommend it. You don't waste time running around finding monsters of your level or looking for quests or finding players to help you make trades. ALL of those TIME-WASTERS have been taken out. And the scenery is AMAZING!! Sorry for all the caps but this game deserves them! :-)

1 out of 5  "Once great... now dead" - 24 April 2007
I have been playing WoW since it's release. Here is why the CLASSIC (non expansion / this game) version is cool.

1. Great world, funny warcraft graphics / similar to Warcraft 3 graphics except in full 3rd person 3D.
2. Great questing. It was fun and enjoyable to play it through to 60 once, a good single player aspect with multiplayer added like getting help on quests.
3. Fun PVP. It's really fun to hop into battlegrounds and beat the hell out of players and complete objectives to win a match. World PVP is fun too with objectives to complete in the open world in certain high level zones like Silithis and Western Plaguelands.

And here is why the entire WoW game is now dead, and rubbish.

1. TBC / The Burning Crusade. About 99% of all players around the world have adopted the expansion. You will literally be alone if you want to just stick with this game only and not go onto the expansion at level 58.
2. TBC ruined alot of things. Once you are level 58 you can enter the new continent, completely ignoring the fantastic end game content of the classic. Go to silithus or western plaguelands now... and it's all deserted, you`ll be the only one there probably.
3. The PVP was never that great, but now it's awful. The mechanics of the game for all classes are totally unbalanced where some are too overpowered and some are too weak to be worth anything in PVP. Blizzard keep nerfing and buffing in pointless patches. They added Resilience that makes you harder to be critically hit and take less damage. Some classes like Rogues who are entirely dependant on critical hits are useless at level 70.
4. Forceful PVP gameplay. You are usually forced into a certain talent specialisation to be the best at PVP in WoW now. In the classic game each talent tree for all classes could be used in any way for PVE or PVP, more skill was invloved. Now there is no skill, only luck.
5. Also PVP players are forced into getting Arena gear and PVE players are forced into getting Tier gear, meaning you can only really play 1 style of game. No raiding guild will take you if youre all in PVP gear because simply your damage and effectiveness will be rubbish against heavy mobs. Vice versa PVE gear has no resilience or damage or critical stats boosts meaning you are going to be non effective against players in PVP gear.
6. You might ask... can I just get both? Sure... grind your life away on farming every end level PVE and PVP armor for your class in the game. Then a new expansion comes out soon anyway, what a waste of life.
7. Arenas. This kills battlegrounds. All players simply grind battlegrounds for honor points to get their Arena season 1 armors which are now available with honor and not arena points, so that they CAN stand a chance in Arenas. No one cares about winning a BG anymore, it's just another grind. Used to be great fun playing some matches that lastest intense full 1 hour, and achieving victory was a fantastic feeling in the classic game.
8. Arenas again... a certain 2v2, 3v3, or 5v5 team with the right players and right talent specs will always beat you, no questions asked, whether they are skilled or not. This is totally unfair to other teams who do not have the luxury of finding that combination all the time. It also once again poses a forceful game style for PVP in Arenas.
9. Daily quests. Their all the same! Go here kill that come back get money. Really interesting... not.
10. Leveling made easier. Blizzard want to force you into their TBC expansion fast. So, they reduced the amount of experience points per level from level 20-60 hugely so that any new players to WoW will now more or less power through it so fast and get to level 58 in no time. So much for the game that started it all... it's now just a stepping stone, and the expansion is a mirage. You get there and realise how terrible it is you wonder what you did it all for.
11. Community. So many players are arrogant and abusive. This is the Counter Strike of MMO games. Many players also hack and find ways to exploit. You will find older players in-game but it is quite rare. The majority of the community know... deep down... that alot of things in the new expansion ruined too much, yet they still stick to their cause and deny any bad critisism about this game and will often abuse you if you say anything about it, not just in-game but on the forums.

Final note...

The classic game is so great. No reslience, level 60 with the best armors was great. You could PVE and PVP effectively, people where more at heart and friendly in-game. You had so many world PVP stuff to do, it was just so damn great.

NOW... it's ruined, and the above reasons why cover it all. You cannot play it without the expansion, the TBC added so much new garbage that ruined PVE and PVP, they took away PVP ranks, made the classic far too easy - let alone the expans

5 out of 5  "Wow by name Wow by Nature............" - 15 July 2007
The name really does say it all, what a fantastic game this is. I must confess that I've always been slightly cynical at having to pay to play an online game, and I still don't with this one notable exception. That said whilst playing the game you do get a real sense that Blizzard isn't just banking the millions they're raking in off the back of this game. Once you've started playing it soon becomes obvious the amount of investment that's required to not only maintain but more importantly improve the online world.

I originally downloaded the 10 day demo one rainy weekend and only a deployment to Afghanistan has stopped me playing. I suppose that's the only downside to the game, once you've started you'll find it hard to stop! The attention to detail is unbelievable, the structure of the game is also just right, hats off to Blizzard they have clearly raised the bar with this great game.

The game its self is a fine balance of action, adventure and intrigue. The diversity in the game is also second to none, with at least six different races to choose from that are actually very different to play. Choose your race an affiliation wisely, but by all means don't limit yourself to just one character. The game carefully takes you in and walks you slowly through the first ten levels of your characters development, this really is a god send as without the carefully scripted start you won't last ten minutes out the wide world of Warcraft. Rather than getting frustrated by the lack of freedom at this stage of the game use it as the opportunity it's meant to be and learn all the nuances of your race, class and character. Word of warning, choose your primary skills early and choose them wisely.

The only downside is downloading the Gigs of updates that are required to play the game, this is of course a necessary evil and just goes to prove how much time and effort Blizzard are putting into continually developing WoW. I would defiantly recommend reading the online help guides and setting up your router to allow the P2P software to download as quickly as they can.

I'd whole heartily and unreservedly recommend this game to any serious RPG fan around the world! Buy it now I promise you won't be disappointed.

If you download the trial as I did direct from Blizzard, please note that you will *not* be able to use this retail pack, as the download is for the USA servers only, and this retail pack is for the European servers only.

4 out of 5  "Extremely addictive, people who are naturally competitive beware!" - 25 July 2007
This game is EXTREMELY addictive and can have you staying indoors, sitting at your computer instead of going out to the cinema with your friends quite easily. I wouldn't reccomend this game to people with less than 2MB broadband and 1.8Ghz processor on their computer as a lot of the time, ESPECIALLY in main cities such as Stormwind and Orgrimmar, gets very laggy and you find yourself entering the city for the first time, thinking "wow" then it takes you 20 minutes to get to the city centre. Also you have to download quite a lot of patches which can take a fair amount of time. Now, to cover the idea of it not being "Newbie friendly", it IS if you have the common sense to read the "Gaining your first level" chapter of the manual. This basically tells you that when you spawn your newly created character for the first time, there's a bloke with an exclamation mark above his head that will give you your first quest. This quest involves killing a few creatures then getting a reward. BOOM! (Gold sparkly things fly around you) Level 2. Sound difficult? No. Fair enough, if you download a free trial then you won't have a manual, so here I am telling it to you. Now, with this whole flooded chat channel idea, if you click on the chat options which are above the chat box then you can disable the "Trade Channel" which is often the chat channel that's spamming up your chat box.

After playing this game for 6 or so months I'd got two of my characters up to level 70 (The maximum level you can get to after you get the Burning Crusade expansion pack) I was getting quite bored of the whole having nothing to do scenario and stopped playing. After not playing for 2 or 3 months now and having bought a new computer during that time, I find my self reordering WoW to start fresh, the claws of addiction dragging me in once more.

Now, don't be fooled, this game isn't the sort of game you can say "Oh, I've got an hour to spare while I put the chicken in the oven, might as well play some WoW" because it isn't. You'll end up going back to check on the chicken after you think your hour's up and finding it cremated.

One word; COMPETITION! The thing about WoW and many other MMORPG's (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) is that the competitiveness of the game keeps dragging you back for another 1, 2, 3 hours so you can get that extra level, that extra item, that extra kill until you end up almost giving your life to this game.

And about the character creation being simple, Morgan, yes you have been spoiled by Oblivion :)

5 out of 5  "Great MMORPG game! highly addictive!!" - 28 August 2007
I'm not a fan of RPG games, but World of Warcraft changed my whole idea about what RPG gaming is all about! Great game! You will never get bored! new challenges every time you login!

The Quests are the most amazing thing about this game!

but it's a highly addictive games! while playing it hours seems line minutes!!

NOTE: THERE IS TWO VERSIONS OF THIS GAME:
1. EURO VERSION (CAN PLAY ON EU SERVERS ONLY) which is good for people who has good connection to the region

2. US VERSION (CAN PLAY ON US SERVERS ONLY) if u have a good connection to the US buy this version

For Middle-East users i would recommend the EU version better connections for most countries

5 out of 5  "Good game" - 22 September 2007
Good game, just annoying that it'll take over half a day before it's installed, wish there was a way of speeding this up.

5 out of 5  "USED versions of WoW" - 27 September 2007
IMPORTANT... Don't buy a used version of World of Warcraft if you dont have an account. You require a CD key to activate the account and used versions of this game dont have cd keys that are valid anymore. Blizzard are not very helpful for buyers of used games when it comes to CD keys...

Now.. on a lighter note... this is one of the best RPG games out there... you will get hooked and the communities are great.. Blizzard help are usually good (its just the case above that stops me from saying great). By all means.. buy this game!

5 out of 5  "WoW!!!" - 27 September 2007
I've been playing since UK release more than two years ago now. The biggest testament to this game is the money it's saved me. Sure, it costs £8.99 a month in subs, but before WoW came along I used to buy at least two new games a month and complete or get bored of them in no time at all.

In the two plus years since getting WoW I can count the number of new games I've bought on one hand. Even classics like Stalker haven't managed to drag me away for long.

It is the greatest game I have ever played. The atmosphere set by the cartoony graphics (which some think are a weakness!), the challenge set by the dungeons and interaction with other players are just some of fantastic things about WoW. The release of the Burning Crusade expansion has only improved it and now there is another expansion to look forward to in 2008.

Just be careful it doesn't take over your life :)

5 out of 5  "WOW, good bye EQ" - 5 October 2007
The Warcraft universe has already been established for years. And I have loved those games. Bought Warcraft I, II and III. And loved every minute. The graphics of World of Warcraft reminds me of these games. And too me that is very appealing. It is really nice when you zoom back and watch your character run across snow...you can see your footprints appear and your boots kick up snow. Really nice.

I have found that you can solo and group to accomplish quest, and I like that. Quests have meaning here. When you complete them you acquire something you can use. And they can be from as simple as taking item X to person Y. Or very involved quest that involve professions and crossing the lands.

Now as far as characters...you are able to play to either the Alliance, which includes the Humans, Gnomes, Dwarves and Night Elves, or you can play to the Horde, which includes the Orcs, Trolls, Taurens and the Undead. Then once you have chosen your faction and race. It is time to chose one of the many different classes: Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin (Alliance only), Priest, Rogue, Shaman (Horde only), Warlock and Warrior.

This game is visually pleasing, has very nice music and sound effects, and enough content it seems to keep you very busy. So buy it when released and come and play. I'll be there...
